No one has mentioned Little Richard?

I don't see anything about Little Richard being an SDA minister (not pastor) for we all minister to each other.

One Saturday, in 1992, I was walking on Hollyood Blvd near the Methodist church where I used to work as an organ builder. I was very depressed because I had just broken up with my girlfriend. I was looking down at the Hollywood walk of fame stars when I noticed a limo pull right next to me and I heard some guy call me over to the limo...it was Little Richard passing out christian books with a picture of himself inserted. I thougth "how cool is that. To be doing missionary work in a limo." He said "God Bless". I went to Academy with one of his nephews who said he is still SDA.

Do not discredit what you hear about Little Richard. A couple of months ago a couple of men entered our church and I greeted them and asked where they were from. "California" they answered. Then they chatted with my daughter and left. A few minutes later they came in, at least 14 black men, and marched to the front of the church. They had asked my daughter for two rows of seats and she told them it would have to be up front.

The fellow telling the children story looked at one of the men in the group and asked, "Are you Richard Pennington or do you just look like him?" A smile in return.

He sang the songs without need of Hymnal and he quoted scriptures with the pastor without need of Bible.

I decided to ask if he would allow a grandmother to have a picture taken with him and he replied "not on the Sabbath". He invited me to come out to the van and he would give me one but someone brought a booklet to me with an autographed picture. It was Steps to Christ under a different title with Bible studies in the back.

The reason that he attended our church in Allentown, PA, was because he had a concert that evening close by. After the concert, with a packed house, he had his people hand out the same booklet to all of the people in attendance and that was reported in the local newspaper.

He is not a very big man. He had on a silver colored suit and no jewelry or makeup. Being 70, he said that this would be his last tour.

Believe it or not, and this is not by Ripley, but by Shirley.

I would second that one, Shirley.

A few years back, Little Richard staged a concert at Texas A&M. That Sabbath morning, he and 3 of his group came in for the service, and stayed until just after the benediction ended - he was one of the first out.

I knew his face was familiar, but I couldn't place him. Treated him as any other person. However, there were a few students in the congregation who postively ID'd him to me later on, in the evening vespers. He may/may not be an ordained SDA pastor, but he did care enough about Sabbath service to seek out the local SDA church and attend.

He was quite gracious and kind as I shook his hand that morning as I greeted him coming in the door. I remember his face today because I was in the pulpit that morning, giving the sermon, and couldn't help but notice he wasn't a regular.

His concert that Saturday evening didn't start until well after sundown...which is a full 1 1/2 hours later than most concerts start.....

I have reviewed the posts in this thread, and the link Stan posted, and will mke some comments.

1) I grew up in the time that Little Richard (LR) was active. During that time the bounced back and forth between Rock & Roll, the SDA Church, and Oakwood College. Each time he did, it made the news, and I read it.

2) It is clear that he has a SDA background. It is also clear that he maintains some sort of a relationshipl with the SDA Church, and attends local churches. I have no doubt that he passes out SDA literature.

3) I believe that his moon-shine selling father was a local chruch elder, rather than an ordained SDA Minister. The media simply does not know the difference.

4) Around the 80s LR turned to evangelism. But, this was an independent ministry. It was not sponsored by the SDA Chruch. I do not believe that he was ever an Ordained SDA Minsister. I went to one of his evangelistic meetings in the 1981-1984 time frame, in Ft. Bragg, N.C. He claimed no denominational affiliation. He did not preach what would be considered a typical evangelistic SDA message. [NOTE: That is not a negative comment.] He did a lot of self-disclosure, in which he confessed to a clearly non-Christian lifestyle. His was simply an independent minsitry. Later, he left that ministry.

5) I do not intend to be negative about LR. I think that we can be thankfull for the witness that he does provide. His ultimate spiritual future is in the hands of the Lord who knows him better than any of us. But, I think that we should not over rate his relationshilp to the SDA Church. E.g. I do not believe he was ever an Ordained Minister. Those who call him so, are likely mistaking him with another Black actor (Clifton Davis) who left Andrews University Theological Sminary to persue a carrer in TV acting. He was a SDA minister on one level.

Quite a few years ago, I saw Little Richard on TV and he had on his jewels and makeup and someone asked him about being an SDA and he replied "You have to eat".

When I have seen him on TV in more recent times, he is free of the jewels and makeup.

As to Cliftin Davis, he had been doing some work on Lifestyle Magazine. I think that he was on the recent Christmas program that we had on TV so he is still associated with the church. I did not get to see the program though.

I was doing some checking in search and saw that Prince grew up SDA but is now a Jehovah Witness. How can anyone who knows our beliefs go in that direction?

An "ordained" minister, I don't think so..Did LR graduate with a theology degree? I believe the answer is yes...Did he go one to Andrews University for his last 2 years in ministry? I have not heard...

I know that there are many SDAs who desire to be in the entertainment industry, but can not work that due to Sabbath issues that come up. I think that LR did his best to avoid those issues and maintains a distinct lifestyle differrence between what goes on up on the stage and what goes on in the privite life...

Harrison Ford said it well. Hollywood is a bussiness....Meaning that the person you see on the screen is not necessarily the same individual in private life. The same can be said of theater performances or musicals....Garth Brooks is not necessarily the same person on stage as he is in private life.... And if you have ever been on stage before, and felt it's pull, then you got an idea what many stars fight against to maintain thier privacy....We need more people like LR who have done thier best to reach another group of people that we SDAs have typically missed thru out our history....

I believe he (LR) has credentials issued by teh Southern California Conference. HOWEVER they may not do that anymore.

He has performed wedding ceremonies, he did Cindy Laupers, and a few others.

It has been a while since I spoke with him, but I do believe he said he was employed by the South-Eastern California Conference as a Pastor for a while, before he reentered the industry.

What did I miss when I looked through Rev. 2?? The 7 churches are listed but did I miss a body of water?

I thought of the Eyphrates or Tigress since that is the area of the Garden and then there would be the Jordan where Jesus was baptized.

Back in the early 80s, Little Richard set up a big tent in which to hold evangelistic meetings somewhere near Bartsow, and he was seen on TV news talking against rock 'n roll. A couple of years or so after that he was back doing rock 'n roll. I'm sure he has a lot of conflicts troubling his soul. Like a lot of famous, rich people, he needs to be held up before God in special prayer.

Clifton Davis was briefly an associate or assistent pastor at the Loma Linda University church sometime back in the early 90s

The other day I saw him as usual on a well-known non-Adventist Christian TV station. I have never heard him mention the Sabbath, the non-immortality of the soul, or the Heavenly sanctuary, etc. I doubt if he has freedom to talk about these things. I have heard that Clifton is no longer an SDA, but I've not seen this information confirmed.

When people get away from Christ, doing what they know to be wrong, and go into the spiritual darkness, the darkness looks like light and what's error looks like truth. That is one of the dangers of not doing what you know to be right-- you can lose your way and still be convinced you're on the right path. It could happen to any of us. Pray that Prince will hear God's voice calling him back to the truth as it is in Jesus.
