NAD ACS Responds to Texas Winter Tornados

404-hr.gif

On Saturday December 26, 2015 a series of strong storms hit the northern area of Texas, killing 11 people and damaging hundreds of buildings. The storms followed a period of overly warm weather which provided spring like weather to the area. A winter storm advisory is now in place which threatens Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico with heavy winter weather.

Adventist Community Services Disaster Response (ACS DR) is responding to the needs of those affected by these storms.
Monique Monroe, Dallas Area ACS DR Coordinator is leading out in the response at the Garland Faith SDA Church. They are assembling clean up kits to distribute to the affected families. Many home have damage and cleaning supplies are in great demand. Volunteers are also needed to help in the effort. Supplies are also needed to create more cleaning kits for distribution. Needed supplies are: bleach, scouring pads, sponges (assorted sizes), scrub brushes, cleaning towels (reusable), laundry detergent, household cleaners (i.e., pine sol, 409), dish soap, dust masks, latex & non latex gloves, work gloves, heavy duty trash bags, large tarps, brooms, mops, mop buckets, and paper towels.

Sung Kwon, Executive Director, North American Division Adventist Community Services, described the impact of the disaster, "
Sadly, there have been multiple fatalities from this event, and our prayers are for the comfort of their families. Many survivors are learning today what they have lost in the storm."

The Dallas Area ACS DR is working with the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) team to coordination further ACS DR response to the disaster. Monetary donations to help alleviate the disaster can be sent to Texas ACS, P.O. Box 25, Keene, Texas 76959.
