Assessing Christian Division

Recommended Posts

How do we assess the significance of Christian Division?

Are there any figural explanations of The Divided Church, in Scripture? Some authors that I have read suggest that there is a somewhat figural representation of Modernity's Church being in an "ongoing exile," of sorts, and that this figural; depending upon how it is being viewed,  forms the Division Of Church today. An ongoing exile seems to inform the expectations we are seeing these days, regarding our clergy, or ecclesial associations. The apathy of many Christians, expressed well on this forum by some, does mean something, and it must arise from somewhere out of the depths of our past, figural carricatures, which HIS - STORY is drawn from. Old Testament and New Testament figures, whom we call prophets, show a paradoxical significance, even at the time of Jesus:

Quote

"But in the following instructions I do not commend you, because when you come together it is not for the better but for the worse.
For, in the first place, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you. And I believe it in part,
For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you."(1 Cor 11:16-19, ESV)

How does Christian Division effect the reality of Christ Jesus, to whom, in fact, each division refers to in a primary way? How do we shed Light on the denominational construals of The Divided Church? Is it fair; moreover, is it Biblical, that Division even exists amongst “true” Christians? On the basis of what Paul says in 1 Cor 11:19, and how factions MUST exist; how can The Church Militiant move forward, toward’s modernity’s Church Triumphant?  What would that look like in “work clothes?”

Apparently, Christianity has “the true Church,” in many different flavors. Then there is “the remnant,” and then “the universal church,” and of course, the Church that claims to be “the original church,” and I am sure most of us could add more to this list.
